Course Description

  • This course is recommended for students in Grade 9.
  • Students will study careers in floral design; design principles and techniques in floral art and interiorscapes; demonstrate floral design principles and demonstrate interiorscape principles and practices.

Floral Design (AGSC 363)

Ag Science 363 is a basic course designed to develop skills in the design and arrangement of flowers, foliage, and related plant materials for interior locations. This course is one semester in length and a ½ credit.

Below is a timeline, by objectives, based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. This timeline is subject to change.

1st SIX WEEKS – Careers in Floral Design; History of Floral Design; Identification & Classification of Flowers and Keeping Qualities of Flowers

2nd SIX WEEKS – Arrangements with Fresh Flowers; Arrangements with Silk Flowers; Corsages & Boutonnieres and Arrangements for Holidays

3rd SIX WEEKS – Identification of Indoor Plants; Interior Floral Design; Health of Interior Plants and Safety in the Floral Industry

 Additional topics may be added as necessary.

Assignment Guidelines: • Several quizzes and will be given throughout each six weeks period, some may be in the form of small projects

Assignment/Homework will be handled as stated in the District Homework Policy. If a student is absent (excused), he/she will be given two (2) days for make-up, for each absence. This does not apply to long term, previously announced projects with a designated due date. If a student is absent on the designated due date, it is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements for the projects to turned in on time.

Grades will consist of the following: • Daily Work/Projects 60% • Exams 20% • Semester Exam 20%

Student Expectations and Responsibilities: • Show RESPECT for others at all times • Be prepared to work when the tardy bell rings • Bring all books and needed supplies daily, including assignment book • Integrate technology into learning • Be an active participant • Sit in your assigned seat daily • Have Fun REWARDS for following the Student Expectations and Responsibilities:  Excellent grades  Recognition  POSITIVE contact with parents/guardians

REACTIONS if YOU CHOOSE NOT to follow Student Expectations and Responsibilities:  Teacher/Student conference  Parent contact and/or detention with teacher  Office and/or Detention Hall

Sinton FFA Being a member of Sinton FFA is not a requirement for taking an Ag Science course, but participation is encouraged. There are numerous opportunities in the FFA including, but not limited to, leadership, friendship, scholarship, travel, livestock shows and many other competitions!

FFA Meetings are held the 2nd Monday of each month in the Ag building. Dues are $20 for the school year.
