Business Computer Information Systems I

Develops technology skills with applications to personal or business situations focusing on word processing, spreadsheets, databases, telecommunication, desktop publishing, presentation management, networking, operating systems, and emerging technologies; and develops intermediate level skills.

1st 6 weeks –Keyboarding skills and speed

2nd 6 weeks – Tabs, business letters, date and time feature, proofreading and updating, modifying letters, alignment, bulleted lists, font size and color, thesaurus, word count memos, language tools, margins, indents, spacing, cut and paste, move text, copy text, resumes, hyphenation, special characters, page breaks, bookmarks, footnotes, headers and footers, page numbers

3rd 6 weeks – Superscripts and subscripts, columns, tab alignment, leaders, tables, column headings, column width, paragraph borders, cover pages, shading, ClipArt, graphics, letterhead, newsletters, Microsoft Draw, WordArt, PowerPoint project

4th 6 weeks – Spreadsheet, labels, values, gridlines, formulas, ranges, alignment, absolute formulas, functions, freeze titles, sort information, borders and patterns, auto format.

5th 6 weeks – Charts, legends, Database planning, record width and height, fill series, page setup, selected records, wildcards, find and replace, filters, format a database, address book, brochures.

6th 6 weeks - Sort records, create reports, modify and format report, sort and group, filters, integration, embedding, linking, merging, form letters, selected records, envelopes, labels, letterhead, PowerPoint Project

Assignment Guidelines:

  • Daily work will be done in the lab
  • Graded work will be kept in the student’s folder during the 6 week grading period

Grades will be determined as follows:

  • Daily assignments 60%
  • Tests 20%
  • weeks test 20%

Classroom Responsibilities/Rules

  • Show respect for others at all times
  • Be prepared when the tardy bell rings
  • Bring all books and needed supplies daily
  • Sit in your assigned seat daily

Rewards for following the classroom rules

  • Excellent grades

  • Positive contact the parents/guardians

Reactions if YOU choose not to follow the rules:

  • Teacher/student conference
  • Parent contact and/or detention
  • Office and/or Detention Hall

Tutorials

  • Tutorials will be available after school.
  • Students must check the board for times
    Missing Assignments Students will be given 3 days from the date of the missing assignment or from the date that they return to school after being absent to complete the assignment.

Exemptions
Students will be exempt from semester exams when

  • They passed all sections of the TAKS and
  • Have 2 or fewer excused absences and
  • Have an 80 or better average
    Cheating

Any student found guilty of cheating or plagiarism will automatically receive a zero for that assignment and may be referred to the office for further discipline.
