This technological laboratory course is designed to address the textile and apparel industries, textile design and production, apparel design practices and influences, and career preparation. Instruction includes knowledge and skills of the design industry, fibers, fabrics, textile and apparel manufacturing systems, product marketing techniques, technology applications, international impact of the textile and apparel industries, federal regulations, and career options. Design procedures and management of multiple family, community, and career roles are emphasized.

  • 4th Six Weeks: Social, cultural, and life-cycle influences on apparel preferences and management. Principles of effective wardrobe planning. Elements and principles of design in apparel. Apparel management techniques for individuals with special needs.
  • 5th Six Weeks: Care and maintenance practices for apparel. Managing the apparel dollar. Factors influencing the apparel industry.
  • 6th Six Weeks: Repair, alteration, and production techniques. Appropriate use and care of equipment, tools, and notions. Employability skills. Career decisions.

Grading Policy Daily Grades: 60%, Projects, Labs, Tests, Unit Tests: 20%, Six Weeks Test: 20%
