Welder Elementary Grand Opening

October 13^th, 2011 - Close to 200 people helped Welder Elementary usher in a new era last night at the Official Grand Opening. Several speakers emphasized the things that had to come together to make the dream come true. From the Welder Family donation, School Board commitment, talented architects and builders, great weather, staff sacrifices and the never ending support of the community the project really was amazing. The new building was most touted for its beautiful design which includes for the first time at Welder a gym, art room, music room, science lab, computer lab and Smartboards in all classrooms. Linda Villarreal, Executive Director of the ESC 2, stated that “Welder is not just a building with classrooms, but a home where children learn and get there first experience of school”.

Hands on Science

New Welder Waterford Computer Lab

Students in the new Welder computer laboratory experience the latest technology. Welder elementary students now have the benefit of the Waterford Early Learning Program which engages students using digital curriculum and provides an individualized experience from introduction to mastery of critical concepts in reading, mathematics and science. The curriculum is aligned to the Common Core State Standards for both mathematics and language arts, and students learn with full-motion video, brilliant animation, entertaining songs and interactive activities; which include hearing their own voice through a microphone in their headsets.

Sinton Elem Connects on 9/11

On September 12th, 2011 Ms. Basaldua's class participated in a video conference with other elementary students all over the state. The video conference focused on why adults consider the 9/11 attacks a moment in time that can never be forgotten. The students listened to the stories of ordinary people who became heroes unexpectedly. A Texas teacher who was working in New York City on that day was interviewed and the students discovered what they can do to help keep the memory alive.
